Equipped with teeth, claws, or other natural weapons, animals have little trouble finding food and defending themselves. Humans, on the other hand, would have a hard time surviving if they did not create special defenses for themselves against the weather and other animals. Even wearing clothes is a way that we protect ourselves. One way that humans have found to find food to eat and to protect themselves is by making weapons. A weapon can be used to injure an animal, another person, or to destroy a military target. Throughout history, weapons have been used to threaten others.
Inventing weapons was an important step in mankind's progress from nomads to farmers. Having begun to farm the land, people needed ways to protect their crops and animals from thieves. Also, in the Middle Ages, the building of castles necessitated to develop new weapons to help defend the castles. Today there is a constant race to improve military weapons. This has resulted in the development of the nuclear bomb, which has been considered too powerful to be employed in any modern wars since World War II.
Countries that possess nuclear weapons are not prepared to use them because they do not want to risk hurting themselves as well. The world community closely monitors each country's decision to produce nuclear weapons and strongly encourages all countries to destroy them. Hopefully, we can avoid using them at all in future conflicts.
